As the English monarchy is threatened, we follow the journey of a young, defiant prince while he grows into the responsibilities of his bloodline. However, will he be prepared in time to stop and maintain his place on the throne from the coup desperate for his father’s head? Or will the rebellion abolish the royalty and force the crown out of the prince’s hands before he has the bandwidth to enjoy it?
A son who is the theme of Honor’s tongue,
Amongst a grove the very straightest plant,
Who is sweet Fortune’s minion and her pride;
Whilst I, by looking on the praise of him,
See riot and dishonor stain the brow
Of my young Harry.
Act 1, Scene 1, 80-85
Director’s Note:
In a country ravaged by an endless foreign war that seems impossible to win, there is a brutal struggle for power happening in the government that is about to divide the country into an all out civil war. Sound familiar? At the heart of Shakespeare’s Henry VI trilogy, beginning at the end of the Hundred Years war with France, is the story of the War of the Roses between the houses of Lancaster and York, a bloody battle for the English Crown. It’s a gruesome story of entitlement, betrayal, murder and a terrifying portrait of the corruption of power.
